THERE is so much to comment on in yesterday’s paper. Angus Cochrane’s article on Dido Harding’s ignorance of virus mutation is astounding, since every Scottish schoolchild for at least the last 40 years in my experience, has been taught this by the end of second year (Health professor rubbish UK adviser’s virus mutation comments, February 4).

Lesley Riddoch and David Pratt – totally agree we can’t take our eye off the big prize by infighting.

Anne Thomson, in the letters pages, has a good point regards the use of troops. No point in only quarantining international flights. Land and sea borders must be similarly treated, with only absolutely essential traffic permitted.

To those who say it is not practical to police the Scotland/England land border, then even a small number of police stops, similar to those used locally for "random" stops, would surely severely discourage unnecessary travel. If I can’t legally travel from Milngavie across the council border to Glasgow – I don’t see that restricting travel from an English council to a Scottish one should be a problem.

Regarding Gove, his avoidance of actual vaccine numbers is well documented, but no-one has questioned him about what constitutes an "eligible" care home. Is there a high percentage of "ineligible" care homes?

I liked Iain WD Forde’s letter, but one wee thing, I think the idea of nuclear necessity for the permanent seat on the UN Security Council is false. I stand to be corrected, but it seems to me that the only criterion is that we were a major Allied power in winning World War Two – no mention of any nuclear capacity.

Rant over for the moment!

PEOPLE who are undecided on whether Scotland should be independent should ask themselves what Scotland would NOT be paying for after independence: things such as nuclear weapons to kill innocent people.
