This week the journalist takes a look at the High Court’s decision that Matt Hancock acted unlawfully by failing to reveal details of contracts signed during the coronavirus pandemic.

A judge said the Health Secretary had “breached his legal obligation” by failing to make the details public within 30 days of them being signed.

Riddoch argues that the finding has failed to garner significant attention in the UK media – and that the UK Government has form for being found on the wrong side of the law.

The broadcaster details other areas times where the UK Government has been in legal trouble – from issues at the Home Office and DWP to rows involving Boris Johnson and Robert Jenrick.

“Today we’ve got a long catalogue really of all sorts of court actions against the British Government, who will have the audacity at some point to pick up some tiny aspect of something the Scottish Government has done and try to hold it to account,” she says.

“Which is fair – you know, that is fair. But in all occasions let’s just remember who has form and it’s not just Matt Hancock. It’s not just the Health Secretary. It’s not just this year, it’s not just this once. And it’s not just Covid.

“This is a pattern, and it’s part of the reason, personally speaking, independence can’t come fast enough.”
