I’M surprised none of the independence-supporting groups from All Under One Banner to the Scottish Independence Convention and all others in between haven’t thought of using Ruth Davidson’s indecision on what to be called in the House of Lords as a potential fundraiser. Imagine how much they could raise if all indy supporters paid a £1 each to suggest a possible name for Davidson to adopt in the House of Lords!
Obviously there is little chance she would take advice from people who actually care about Scotland’s future, but it could give us all a much-needed laugh. What about Baroness Davidson of Pacific Quay – after all she’s on speed-dial for BBC Scotland reporters wanting to gaslight the Scottish public!

POOR Ruth can’t get off to her latest lucrative, two-days-a-week job in the House of Lords until she agrees her title with the Royal Garter. Can we help her? Any suggestions? Tank Commander comes quick to mind, or how about Lady Macduff (the castle’s near Buckhaven). Please all answers on a postcard. We need to help her take up her seat ASAP. After all, she’s promised to campaign to reform this outdated unelected second chamber!

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
