The Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies (C5, 7pm)
THE comedian hears more stories from the people who dedicate themselves to helping our four-legged friends. In this episode, Inspector Becky Goulding comes to the aid of Susie, an injured Saluki who limped onto a petrol-station forecourt in Greater Manchester with a fractured leg that was found to be damaged beyond repair. The limb has to be removed, but can Susie still find a happy ending? In West Yorkshire, Inspector Sarah Bagley encounters two canines desperately in need of a haircut, while dog-owner Yohan has made the difficult decision to hand over one of his pets because they keep fighting.
Bake Off: The Professionals (C4, 8pm)
THE remaining four teams from the current heat get ready to tackle chocolate week, beginning by creating a sharing dessert that will also showcase one of judge Cherish Finden’s favourite ingredients. While that will hopefully be a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds, there may be an excuse for the showpieces to look a little less appetising, as Cherish and Benoit Blin ask the teams to come up with a house-of-horrors-themed creation.
Hemingway (BBC4, 9pm)
HE is considered one of the great American writers who has been a huge influence around the world, but Ernest Hemingway is also a controversial figure who has been accused of being a woman-hater, among other things. So, no wonder award-winning filmmakers Ken Burns and Lynn Novick thought there was enough material in the author’s life and legacy to fill a six-part documentary series. Narrated by Peter Coyote, it charts Hemingway’s own story while also featuring excerpts from his writing, read by Jeff Daniels, Meryl Streep, Keri Russell and Patricia Clarkson.
Bates Motel (BBC One, 11.30pm & 12.15am)
IN the first part of tonight’s double bill, Norma tells Romero about her dream to renovate the Bates house, and he responds by revealing the money he took from Bob on the night of his murder. Over at Pineview, Norman is creating papier-mache and finds a newspaper clipping about his mother’s marriage to Romero.
