Here's what's on tonight...

Scotland: A Year In The Wild (C5, 7pm)
AT long last, summer has arrived. That means longer daylight hours and an abundance of food for the creatures living in Scotland’s vast stretches of wild land. On the west coast, cameras capture the amazing sight of whitetailed eaglets learning to fly, with the larger of the two birds mastering the skill before bullying her sibling.

Meanwhile, young otters receive fishing instructions from their mother, newborn red deer calves hide from hungry eagles and a beaver family explore their new home in the Cairngorms.

Great Paintings Of The World With Andrew Marr (C5, 9pm)
YOU may not think you’re familiar with Picasso’s Weeping Woman, but as soon as Marr presents it to the camera, you’ll realise you’ve seen it hundreds of times before. The image is based on a woman holding her dead child. The model was Dora Maar, the artist’s mistress and muse, and it was created in response to the bombing of the small town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Marr charts Weeping Woman’s history, revealing how it is tied to Picasso’s often difficult relationships with the women who inspired him.

Gardeners’ World (BBC2, 9.30pm)
THE calming tones of Monty Don have inspired thousands to take up a spade and start revamping their gardens. However, it’s Adam Frost who takes centre stage this week while demonstrating the successful way to grow plants in peat-free compost. Over in Worcestershire, Nick Bailey surveys some stunning peonies, while Kate Bradbury offers tips on feeding wildlife during the summer months.

Canadian Hits At The BBC (BBC4, 9.30pm)
OVER the decades, American pop and rock stars have won millions of British music-lovers’ hearts, but their Canadian cousins have an impressive track record too. If you need proof, check out this compilation culled from the Beeb’s archives. We’re expecting the likes of Bryan Adams, Alanis Morissette, Leonard Cohen, Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Rufus Wainwright to feature. The Canadian theme continues afterwards with kd lang: BBC Four Session at 10.30pm, Buble At The BBC at 11.30pm and In Concert: Gordon Lightfoot at 12.30am.
