POLICE Scotland gave a mounted police escort to a man raising money for charity after the loss of his brother following a road traffic accident.

Jamie Alcock passed by the Kelpies yesterday with his two shire horses, William and Millie, during his challenge to travel from his farm in Gloucester to his brother John’s graveside in Moray.

John, a royal protection officer with Gramian Police, was involved in a traffic accident in 2003 while on duty, travelling with colleagues to carry out a shift at Balmoral.

Falling unconscious at the scene of the accident, he never recovered consciousness and eventually died 14 years later, where he was buried with full police honours at Garmouth, just north of Fochabers, in October 2017.

His brother Jamie had looked after him in the 14 years, and now seeks to raise money to “pay back into the pot” by fundraising for for Police Care UK and The Fire Fighters Charity.

Jamie said: The local police federation and Chief Constable looked after his needs and issues as much as they could and in a most generous way. They did their best for his partner and young son too.”

On his challenge, he added: “I hope to raise as much money as possible. I want to help put back into the pot so that others can be helped too.”

On the way to his brother’s grave, Jamie says he plans on visiting the Scottish Police Memorial near Kincardine, where John’s name is carved.
