A STATIC rally in support of independence took place in Dundee yesterday.

The demonstration, organised by All Under One Banner (AUOB), saw Yes supporters gather in front of the city’s Caird Hall.

Many carried Saltires and there were placards with slogans such as “Let’s make our own decisions for a greener, healthier, more prosperous future”.

A spokesperson for the group said it was the fifth static rally that AUOB had held in recent times, with those attending asked to observe social distancing and wear face masks. He said it had been a successful rally, adding: “We urgently need the full powers of an independent Parliament, we cannot do anything as the UK Government demolishes devolution.”

One of AUOB’s most successful events took place in Dundee in August 2018, when upwards of 16,000 people marched through the city to a rally in Magdalen Park.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, AUOB has drastically curtailed its marches, but they are planned to resume again in Stirling in September.

Another static rally will be held at Faslane on 28 August to support a nuclear-free independent Scotland.
