A YOUNG man has died after climbing in the Cuillins area of Skye, emergency service teams have confirmed.

The climber had been exploring the mountain range on the island on Sunday night.

Skye Mountain Rescue Team responded to reports that a man had fallen from near the summit of Bidean Druim nan Ramh at around 5pm. About five and a half hours later the young man’s body was found.

“A total of 26 team members were involved in an exhausting and at times dangerous search and recovery, eventually arriving back at the road at 8am the next morning,” team leader Neil Urquhart said.

“Apparently several local people and some visiting Army personnel answered a late night appeal on Facebook to provide sandwiches and snacks which our reserve team members carried up to us - amazing, thank you so much.

“Our sincere condolences go to the family, loved ones and friends of the young climber.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers assisted mountain rescue partners to a report that a climber had fallen in the Cuillins area of the Isle of Skye on Sunday, 15 August, 2021.
