A 54-YEAR-OLD man who is wanted as a suspect for the murder of his wife has been seen in Elgin, police have said.

Nurse Eileen Barrott, 50, was found dead at her home in Leeds on Sunday, and detectives issued an urgent appeal to find her husband, Mark Barrott, 54. Officers say Mrs Barrott’s family have been left “completely devastated” by her death.

Police said Mr Barrott travelled from Leeds to Edinburgh by train on Sunday before moving on to Aberdeen. He is then believed to have travelled by train to Elgin, Moray.

Police said information on his whereabouts in the town was obtained yesterday but when officers attended he was no longer there.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are working with Police Scotland to trace Mr Barrott following this new sighting.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe said police are “keen to hear from anyone who has seen him” since yesterday’s sighting in the Elgin area.

“We have already sent detectives to Scotland to work alongside our colleagues from Police Scotland who are supporting and assisting the search for Mr Barrott,” she said.

“Our advice remains that anyone who sees him should not approach him but should contact police immediately on 999.

“Clearly, Eileen’s family are continuing to go through an incredibly difficult time following her death and I would appeal directly to Mark Barrott to hand himself in to police and avoid prolonging things any further.”

People with information are advised to contact West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101, quoting Operation Pumacastle, reference 13210413554.
