IT’S a busy weekend for The National, with the SNP conference taking place online from Friday to Monday.
With a jam-packed schedule full of speeches, motions and fringe events, our newspaper will be keeping you up to date in myriad ways.
From 10am to conference close each day we’ll be running a live blog – bringing you the latest news and clips plus reaction.
As well as that, our top political reporters will have all the inside information. However their conference stories will only be available to digital subscribers, so keep reading to find out how to subscribe today and make sure you don’t miss out on the latest independence news.
Every night we’re running 3-4 exclusive pieces of conference analysis and opinion from a range of voices. These will look at issues like transport, energy, and also include more general analysis of speeches and reflections on the day’s events. Look out for articles from Ruth Wishart, Kirsty Strickland, Paul Black, Ellie Harrison, Kevin McKenna and many more.
Just like conference stories, these National Extra articles will only be available to digital subscribers.
On our social media we’ll be posting clips from the key speeches throughout the weekend and asking for your views and feedback.
Meanwhile it’s also the Alba conference in Greenock today and tomorrow. We’ll have pictures, video and the latest news from there with one of our top political reporters covering events.
In order to get the most out of this conference-fest, it’s best to take out a digital subscription.
We’re currently running some brilliant promotions – including £2 for two months for a premium plus subscription, or £3.49 for six months for premium.
All the details you need can be found at thenational.scot/subscribe – and we look forward to bringing you everything you need to know over conference weekend!
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
