IT seems that the world is indeed heading to Glasgow next month, and plans are under way for the cause of Scottish independence to be put front and centre for a short time during the event.

On Saturday, November 6 in the midst of COP26, there is to be a march in host city Glasgow which will see ordinary people demanding action on climate justice.

A COP26 coalition is being pulled together for the march, and an important part of it will be a grouping led by All Under One Banner, (AUOB), the organisation that has organised numerous marches and rallies for independence across Scotland, most recently in Edinburgh last weekend. Now AUOB has asked the Yes movement to join it at the COP6 march which will start at Kelvingrove Park at 12.30pm on Saturday, November 6.

Neil Mackay of AUOB said: “Next month Glasgow will host the COP26 climate summit. Government representatives, delegates and protesters from around the world will assemble in Scotland for two weeks.

“On November 6, activists will mobilise and fill the streets of the city centre with tens of thousands of protesters to demand urgent action on climate justice and environmental progress.

“Boris Johnson wants to exclude the Scottish Government from the summit. All Under One Banner calls on supporters of the people of Scotland’s right to decide and Yes activists to join the march on November 6 from Kelvingrove Park to Glasgow Green, so that we bring the demand for independence to the mobilisation.

“Let’s see thousands of bold Saltires on display in Scotland’s biggest city.”

That there will be pro-independence marchers on the streets of Glasgow during COP26 is bound to be controversial, but AUOB feel the opportunity must be taken to get the message of independence to a wider audience.

Mackay went on: “On November 6 the world will be watching us, so let’s have a massive turnout which loudly states we want an independent country which is free of Tory rule and which can lead the fight in saving our planet.

“Therefore we call on Scottish citizens to think global and act local – on November 6 come to Glasgow and together let’s swell up the AUOB independence bloc on the emergency climate action march for a greener, fairer, more prosperous Scotland.”

The amended route, as agreed by Glasgow City Council is from Kelvingrove Park, (potentially Kelvin Way Radnor Street), via Argyle Street, St. Vincent Street, Pitt Street, West George Street, Blythswood Square (South), West George Street, Nelson Mandela Place, West George Street, George Square (North), George Street, High Street, Trongate, Saltmarket, and entering Glasgow Green via McLellan Arch.
