SCOTLAND has recorded more than 2600 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the latest data.
A further 2666 positive cases of coronavirus were recorded in the Scottish Government's most recent daily figures with a positivity rate of 10%.
The latest data also shows that there were two further deaths of people who previously tested positive for Covid-19.
This brings the total under the daily measure - of people who died within 28 days of first testing positive - to 8930.
There were 829 people in hospital with recently confirmed Covid-19 yesterday, a fall of 12 on the day before.
Of these patients, 45 were in intensive care, a fall of two.
In terms of Scotland's vaccine effort, 4,286,044 people have now received the first jag and 3,877,849 have received their second dose.
The Scottish Government has also begun a roll-out of third "booster" jabs, but data on these is not yet available.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
