BORIS Johnson has been ridiculed after claiming that COP26 was held in Edinburgh - when it was held in Glasgow.
Speaking during a Downing Street press conference with COP26 president Alok Sharma, the Prime Minister was answering questions on the outcome of the historic climate summit.
The climate talks eventually led to the Glasgow Pact, which commits countries to more climate action and a historic move against coal.
Ministers and negotiators at the UN summit agreed to get countries to strengthen their emissions-cutting targets for 2030 by the end of next year as part of the bid to limit dangerous warming climbing above 1.5C.

Responding to a question about the UN secretary-general's reaction to the summit, Johnson said he would not want people to think “we cracked it here at COP in Edinburgh” amid criticism from activists and politicians that it did not go far enough.
The Prime Minister said: “I don’t think Antonio Guterres, the secretary-general of the UN, would want people to think that we cracked it here at COP in Edinburgh. Of course not.”
Johnson’s mistake was quickly noticed, with journalist Adam Bienkov asking: “Does he ... realise which city he has been in?”
Boris Johnson has been at COP “in Edinburgh” apparently. Everyone else went to Glasgow. But,hey, who cares about the minor details? https://t.co/6CUduKrxho

Writer and broadcaster Gavin Esler tweeted: “Boris Johnson has been at COP 'in Edinburgh' apparently.
“Everyone else went to Glasgow. But, Hey, who cares about the minor details?”
National columnists Gerry Hassan joined in on the criticism, saying: “Boris Johnson showing his lack of understanding of even the most basic detail.”
Well in fairness, he was in Glasgow for about an hour throughout the 2-weeks of COP26. Easy for him to forget.

Another user took to Twitter to write: “Well in fairness, he was in Glasgow for about an hour throughout the 2-weeks of COP26. Easy for him to forget”
One person added: "No wonder Boris Johnson didn't come to the end discussions of COP26. He thought it was in Edinburgh!!"
The Prime Minister has seen heavy criticism during COP26 from opposition parties and activists for what they claim is a lack of leadership throughout the climate talks.
Johnson left COP a few days into the event to jet back to England to meet a climate change sceptic, only to later return amid sleaze allegations at Westminster.

One user replied to the video of Johnson, declaring: “Embarrassing, another boost to Scottish independence.”
And the SNP's director of communications Tom French said: “He doesn’t have even know where he is. Why is Scotland putting up with this?”
Surprisingly, Johnson isn’t the only person to have mixed up the two Scottish cities.
At the start of the climate talks, CNN was relentlessly mocked for mistakenly thinking COP was being held in Edinburgh, with host Wolf Blitzer seen in front of Edinburgh Castle.
I’m now reporting from Edinburgh in Scotland where 20,000 world leaders and delegates have gathered for the COP26 Climate Summit. COP, by the way, stands for “Conference of the Parties.” It’s the 26th time they have gathered to discuss and take action on this critical issue. pic.twitter.com/BGTAeU5cBy

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
