IT’S the festive season – and to celebrate it, you can take out a subscription to Scotland’s only pro-independence newspaper at a special Christmas discount.
Our seasonal offer means an annual Premium Plus subscription to The National is just £91.99 – which is 20% off the usual rate of £114.99.
Plus, your subscription will come with a £25 gift card for Marks & Spencer.
The next year is set to be a busy one for the independence movement, with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon saying campaigning on indyref2 will begin “in earnest” in spring.

Plus, we’ve got big ideas to build on projects from like our Yessay contest, billboards and eight and 24-page independence specials.
This offer is a great chance to take out an annual subscription ahead of all that – as we’ll keep you up to date with all the latest news, bring top analysis from top voices and do our bit to help make the case for Yes however we can, helping Yessers wherever we can.
When you head over to our subscriptions page at https://www.thenational.scot/subscribe/ you’ll see three options, each with a monthly and annual offering:
- Our Premium subscription
- Our Premium Plus subscription
- Our Print Only subscription
Our Christmas special offer can be found under the “Premium Plus” plan – again, that’s £91.99 for 12 months, plus a £25 M&S gift card.
With that subscription, you’ll see 80% fewer adverts on our website and have unlimited access to all our stories, including premium articles.
You’ll have access to our daily Pagesuite edition, a digital replica of the newspaper, including the Sunday.
Plus: apps, gift incentives and free access to the Scottish Gardener, Scottish Mountaineer and Scottish Walks and Cycling magazines.
All that said, a subscription to The National is about more than perks. If you want Scotland to be free of this toxic Union, we’re with you. And with your support, we’ll fight for that.
Terms and conditions apply. Offer ends 6th January 2022. Only new UK subscribers are eligible for gift. Subscription auto-renews unless cancelled. Digital subscription will be charged at £91.99 per year. Offer is exempt from gifting subscriptions. Gift will be posted or emailed in January 2022. Any issues with your gift must be made known to the subscriptions department within 7 days of receipt. All digital subscriptions can be cancelled and refunded within 14 days of purchase. Digital subscriptions can be cancelled at any time. This offer is available while stocks last and The National reserves the right to change or remove the offer at any time or to offer an alternative gift. Please see www.newsquest.co.uk/digital-subscription-terms-and-conditions for full details.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
