NICOLA Sturgeon is expected to deliver a pre-recorded address to the nation on Tuesday night, the BBC has reported.
The First Minister’s broadcast will come after she provides an update on the Omicron situation in Scotland to the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday afternoon.
Health Secretary Humza Yousaf has warned that new Covid restrictions are now “inevitable”, after Sturgeon said the nation expects a “tsunami” of cases.
BBC Scotland’s political editor announced that the First Minister would make her appearance after it was confirmed that Labour leader Keir Starmer would address the UK on Monday night.
BBC One will broadcast the pre-recorded clip in response to Boris Johnson’s own remarks to England on coronavirus booster vaccines, Labour said.
Johnson has faced some criticism for making his announcement on the expansion of the Covid booster campaign in a pre-recorded statement, with no opportunity for the press to put forward questions.
The First Minister is expected to use her appearance to discuss the quick-spreading Omicron variant though at this stage, little else is known about the broadcast.
The Scottish Government has been contacted for comment.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
