NADINE Dorries has made another embarrassing gaffe – yes, the Tories are still sending her out on to the airwaves despite constant car-crash interviews.
This time, she hasn't even been able to get the basic facts right about her own party’s MPs.
Over at the paper edition of The National, we’ve considered making our default template text “Nadine Dorries has made an embarrassing error” just to save ourselves some time… but, unfortunately, “Boris Johnson has lied” still holds out as a little more frequent.
Culture Secretary Dorries has been busy defending the indefensible, aka the Prime Minister’s actions over partygate.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s today programme, she said that comments from Tory MPs Nick Gibb and Aaron Bell were “disappointing” but that those in “marginal” seats knew the PM had won them the election.
The Culture Secretary was then asked about the 2019 intake of Red Wall MPs, of which Bell is one in his Newcastle-under-Lyme constituency.
Dorries said: “So you want to cite Aaron Bell, again disappointing, I’ll talk about Martin Vickers, who’s up in the far North of England in South Tees.
“I’ll talk about Martin Vickers who is out there supporting the Prime Minister, listing on Channel 4 News the other night the huge number of funding and initiatives that he’s delivered in his constituency.”
Unfortunately, she was wrong.
Martin Vickers (pictured below) is the MP for Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire and has been an MP since 2010 with a current majority of 21,418.
Matt Vickers (pictured at the top of this article) is the MP for Stockton South, with a majority of 5260, and was elected in 2019.
We’ve all made a slip of the tongue. With Dorries, however, it’s a consistent habit.
And take it from a newspaper diary – we know how angry people are when names are mixed up! Team Boris needs all the help it can get right now, so she ought to be careful…
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
