SCOTS have been warned about a new Covid scam circulating the country via text.
NHS Shetland and NHS Western Isles both put out warnings on social media after multiple people had contacted them over a text posing as the Test and Protect team.
In the text, people are asked to order a Covid-19 test kit after coming into contact with someone with coronavirus.
One text reads: “NHS: you’ve come into contact with someone who has Omicron. Please order a Test Kit” and then provides what looks like an NHS URL.

The link in the message takes the person through to a fake NHS website where victimes are asked for personal information and card details.
But the health boards warned Scots not to click on the links and to not order a Covid-19 test kit at cost.
NHS Western Isles said: “We are aware of the following message which a number of people have reported that they received.
“This is not a genuine message, please do not respond.
“The NHS will not ask you to order a test kit at a cost. Please do not provide bank details to sources you are unsure of.”
NHS Shetland said: “We’ve been made aware of various scam texts circulating Shetland regarding being a close contact. We’ve attached two of the scam texts below.
“Please do not open these links or the messages. If you receive a message you are unsure about, please call our Public Health team on 01595 743340 for advice. As a reminder, if you are a close contact, you will receive a message from “Test and Protect.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
