THE launch of a new tourism trail is set to increase the accessibility of the lighthouses on the Rhins of Galloway.

The Lighthouses of the Rhins tour, by Stranraer Development Trust, encourages people to explore six lighthouses by boat or by e-bike.

The featured lighthouses are the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, Killantringan Lighthouse, and Loch Ryan Lighthouse, as well as Portpatrick, Port Logan and Corsewall Lighthouse, which in recent years has become a well-known hotel.

As well as the bookable tours, a series of mini-documentaries have premiered, that explore the history of each site. These are available to watch on the Gateway to Galloway website.

The boat and e-bike tours are being delivered in partnership with two local businesses to amplify the positive local economic impact of the project.

Vanessa Gracie, from Stranraer Development Trust’s Gateway to Galloway tourism hub, said the new trails would help bring to life the stories and the coastal history of the area.

She said: “This has been a fascinating project that has given us the opportunity to explore the lighthouses of the Rhins of Galloway from a visitor’s perspective.

“We have delved into the history of each lighthouse and we’ve identified the best ways of seeing and enjoying each site.

“That has led to the development of tours experiences that we hope will be popular with local people and visitors this year.”
