LABOUR have taken overall control of a Scottish council for the first time in a decade.

The party regained control of West Dunbartonshire Council which it previously lost overall control of in the 2017 local government elections.

It is a boost to Anas Sarwar’s party, which has enjoyed an increase in votes in Thursday’s poll.

Labour picked up 12 seats on the council, which includes Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Lomond shore town of Balloch. That's an increase of four from 2017.

They had previously run the council since its creation in 1995 but suffered a historic defeat in the election five years ago when the SNP formed a minority administration with the largest number of councillors.
