POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a car came off a busy Scottish road and hit five people, killing one.
Officers said the fatal crash happened on the A82 north of Dumbarton on Monday, May 9 at around 8pm.
A grey BMW 3 series hit five men who were working on the grass verge near the Lomondgate roundabout.
Emergency services were called to the scene, where a 59-year-old man was pronounced dead.
A 37 year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow in a “serious” condition.
Three further men, aged 38, 43 and 46, were taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and released after treatment.
The 43-year-old male driver of the BMW and his 35-year-old passenger were uninjured.
Sergeant Hugh Niccolls from the Road Policing Unit at Dumbarton said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and his colleagues who were injured.
“Our enquiries into this crash are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this crash, or who was driving on this road and has dash-cam footage to contact us.
“I would also like to hear from anyone who saw the BMW 3 series car driving on this road before the crash took place.
“Anyone with information should contact police through 101 with reference number 3304 of 9 May.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
