A TORY MSP has been mocked over a tweet claiming there was a “huge turnout” at a local Platinum Jubilee event – when his own pictures showed anything but that.
Liam Kerr jubilee post massively backfired, as he let down his monarch in the process.
Posting two pictures, standing alongside Tory MP Andrew Bowie in one, he tweeted: “Huge turnout at #DunottarCastle #Stonehaven to see the #PlatinumJubilee beacon lit. Wonderful occasion.”

We know numbers can be hard for Tories at times – for example, the horrifying, stark figures about the cost of living crisis they’ve presided over and the damage Brexit is doing to our trade seem to go straight over the heads of the likes of Kerr.
However, given that his picture contained only about as many people as the total of Scottish Tory politicians who have called for Boris Johnson to go – and the bar could hardly be lower – he set himself up to be mocked by social media users.
They obliged.
Huge if true https://t.co/yEBDBi7LcH

I suppose compared to a Tory party conference it’s a huge crowd. https://t.co/e2gFMGxUQ4

Huge crowd? There’s just the two of you! Which one of you lit the bonfire? I suppose two Tories who are actually elected in Scotland is huge. Oh, wait a minute, only one of you is elected…🤷♀️🤣

Good to see, despite the remoaner scaremongering, that health and safety standards have been maintained post-Brexit and the crowd was kept well back from the beacon.

IF there had been a ‘huge turnout’ you’d have posted photos of it

I’ve watched bigger beacons on Guy Fawke’s night
Auld Ruthie’s beacon appears to have been equally underwhelming & under attended

I've seen bigger turn outs to the torching of a nicked Peugeot 306.

We look forward to seeing Kerr’s praise of the Manniefest independence event going on in Golspie today. If this qualified as a “huge turnout”, then that festival will be blowing his mind.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
