TODAY marks the last chance to subscribe to The National’s Black Friday subscription special of £1 for four months across all of our packages – and it couldn’t come at a more crucial time.
A huge crowdfunding milestone for the Yes movement. Rallies across Scotland and Europe with messages of solidarity for our nation. Major questions being asked over a “dodgy bevvy session” hosted by the Tories in the Scottish Parliament.
These are just three of the major stories The National has covered in print, on our website and across our social media accounts since the Supreme Court handed down its ruling on indyref2.

In other words, we’re keeping the heat firmly on this broken Union as Scotland looks to secure its freedom – and you can support that journey by joining The National’s family of subscribers.
For our Black Friday subscription special, we’re offering four months of a digital subscription to ANY of our packages for just £1.
Whether that’s the Digital Pack, the Website Only deal, annual or monthly, you can get four months of your digital subscription to The National for a pound.
Our Digital Pack, for example, gives subscribers complete access to our digital suite. You can read our daily digital edition, a digital replica of the newspaper, as well as enjoy your subscription on your phone by downloading our brand-new app from the Apple store and the Google Play store.
We cover the stories no one else does. We provide a space for the people who are actively changing our country for the better when no one else is. Your support is vital to ensure our coverage and campaign reaches everyone, especially now, when it’s needed most.
When there’s a major event in Scottish or UK politics, we’d invite you to compare our fast, thorough coverage to other Scottish titles to see exactly why a subscription is so worth it… With a subscription, you gain access to our analysis, in-depth reports, breaking news coverage as well as art, history and literature pieces from some of the most talented writers in Scotland.
So – sign up for a FOUR month-long subscription to The National for just £1 – and if you like what you’re seeing, you can stay with us for £9.99 a month.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
