THE boss of a community interest company has revealed the hardship the cost of living crisis has inflcited on an elderly woman.
Plumber and boss of Depher UK, James Anderson, helps provide emergency repairs for vulnerable members of society and has told of how a pensioner he was helping with a leaky tap has been left with almost no food.
He spoke of the woman’s conditions on social media: “An 89-year-old lady with only £1.67 in the bank until mid-January. Three presents from friends, a few cards.
“She is having eggs on toast for her Christmas dinner.
“I went to see her to repair a leaking tap, and she cried on my shoulder for 40 minutes.”
Burnley-based Anderson said the lady had no festive food prepared for her Christmas meal.
A picture he took of the inside of her fridge showed she only had some eggs, yoghurts, orange juice, margarine and some cabbage in a jar.
Anderson urged Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to take notice of how the elderly are being hit by the soaring cost of living this winter.
Taking matters into his own hands, Anderson organised a delivery of groceries from Asda, which arrived on Wednesday and in time for Christmas.

He said: “The lady’s shopping has been delivered.
“She will have plenty of gifts delivered by Father Christmas.
“He said the food will last her 60 days and will ensure she gets a proper Christmas dinner.”
Anderson’s company Depher UK has been helping those in poverty over the last five years and has a website for donations.
