The National's editor Laura Webster said: "Earlier this month, we shone a light on the hushed-up McCrone Report and published a series on Scotland's future potential through renewables ... heavily at risk as a result of the Union.
“We lifted the paywall so that we could get the message out far and wide – and we were thrilled to see the massive interest. We've heard some great stories of readers using the material to help win over undecided voters.
"The news agenda isn't letting up, though, and this flash sale is a fantastic chance to get access to everything The National has to offer.
"Try us out for three months and we'll do our best to win you over with coverage of what's really happening across Scotland."
So, how can you take out a subscription?
When you head over to our subscriptions page at https://www.thenational.scot/subscribe/ you’ll see three options:
- Our Website Only subscription
- Our Digital Pack subscription
- Our Print Only subscription
Our £1 for three months offer is available for both our Premium and Premium Plus subscriptions.
We're also offering a saving of more than 30% if you take out an annual subscription during this offer period instead.
With a digital subscription, you’ll see fewer adverts on our website and have unlimited access to all our stories, including premium articles.
With the Digital Pack subscription, you'll have access to our daily Pagesuite edition, a digital replica of the newspaper, including the Sunday.
Plus: apps, gift incentives and free access to the Scottish Gardener, Scottish Mountaineer and Scottish Walks and Cycling magazines.
All that said, a subscription to The National is about more than perks. If you want Scotland to be free of this Union and its never-ending scandals, hostile environment and Universal Credit cuts, we’re with you. And with your support, we’ll fight for that.
Terms and conditions apply. Offer only valid on digital subscriptions. Subscription auto-renews unless cancelled. After the three-month trial period, monthly subscription will be charged at £6.99 per month on Website Only or £12.99 per month on Digital Pack. Annual will renew at £62.99 per year on Website Only or £116.99 per year on Digital Pack. Offer is exempt from gifting subscriptions. All subscriptions can be cancelled and refunded within 14 days of purchase. Non-subscribers and Website Only subscribers have limited access to the website and The National app. The National reserves the right to change or remove the offer at any time. Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
