VOLUNTEERS are wanted to help in an organised search for a retired veteran who has been reported missing.
Dane McGill, 53, was last seen in the Dalswinton area, where he lives, on November 10, 2023, around 12:30pm.
He is described as being 5ft9, having grey-coloured hair and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket and khaki trousers. He is also permanently needs a walking stick due to a back injury.
Retired veteran charity Fire Mission, a group Mr McGill was a part of, has set up an organised search on January 27 and 28.
Volunteers should meet at Dalswinston Village Hall, Dumfriesshire, at 9am to start the search.
Parking has been made available at the village hall and nearby church, as well as the hall being open overnight on Friday, January 26, for use of facilities and to sleep in.
Fire Mission is currently conducting its own search with the support of the veteran community. Volunteers have come forward to offer their services, which include dog handlers, drone operators, and underwater search team and a light aircraft.
Local veterans from Dumfries carried out a leaflet drop of the organised search to supermarkets last Saturday.
If you have any information, please contact 101 with the reference number 2878 of November 10.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
