AN AWARD-WINNING Scottish brewing firm has announced it will be closing down due to "spiralling" costs.
Windswept Brewing Co in Lossiemouth was founded in 2012 – over a decade ago – but announced on Monday (January 22) that with a “heavy heart”, they will have to close their doors.
In a statement, the brewery said the industry had faced an “increasing number of challenges” in the last few years.
Ultimately, they cited “spiralling energy and raw material costs and falling sales” as the main reasons behind the closure – adding that this was caused “largely” by the cost-of-living crisis.

The statement said: “The past 11 years have been an amazing adventure – we’ve come a long way since our first brew in November 2012.
"We’ve experienced lots of highs and lows but importantly we’ve made some fantastic lifelong memories and lifelong friends.
"We’ve also produced some great beers and won more awards than we have space for.
“We are very proud of that but mindful that none of this would have been achieved without the support of our customers and local community.”
The award-winning brewery will remain open for online sales until January 29, while their tap room and shop will remain open until February 3.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
