A TEN-YEAR-OLD girl has died after getting into difficulty at a swimming pool in Aberdeen.

The incident happened around 8pm on Monday, February 12, at Northfield swimming pool.

On Monday, emergency crews were in attendance at the leisure centre and people were turned away as the centre closed.

She was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she later died. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 8pm on Monday, February 12, 2024, we were made aware a young female had got into difficulty in a swimming pool in Aberdeen.

“Emergency services attended, and a ten-year-old girl was taken to hospital where she later died.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death, which is not being treated as suspicious.”

SNP MP for Aberdeen South Stephen Flynn posted in reaction to the news: "Such terribly sad news. My heart goes out to all her family and friends, can’t imagine the pain they must be feeling."
