THE National’s fundraiser with Medical Aid for Palestinians has now reached its initial £15,000 target after launching on Saturday morning.
As such, we have now decided to double the target to £30,000 by next Saturday to help raise money for the increasingly deteriorating situation in Gaza.
More than 30,000 Palestinians are dead while more than 70,000 have been injured and the humanitarian situation is only getting worse.

Medical Aid for Palestinians is one of the only organisations able to provide aid on the ground in Gaza right now.
We will also be releasing exclusive content throughout the week until next Saturday to highlight the dire humanitarian situation and what we can do to help.
We’re encouraging readers to donate (click the banner below) what they can and to help raise money.
Everything you donate will go straight to this crucial organisation’s work and your money can literally help to save lives.
This isn’t a political campaign and it has so far been endorsed by every Scottish political leader – Douglas Ross, Anas Sarwar, Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater, Alex Cole-Hamilton and Alex Salmond.

Medical Aid for Palestinians has been working in Palestine for 40 years, and are working tirelessly under the most tiring circumstances to ensure people get the healthcare they need and deserve.
This is often at the risk of death. Since October 7 2023, at least 340 healthcare workers have been killed while more than 160 others have been detained, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
The least their bravery deserves is the medication and equipment they need to do their job.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
