MEDICAL Aid for Palestinians (MAP) has thanked The National's readers for raising over £110,000 for Gaza.
The fundraiser smashed its initial goal of £15,000 and had to be continually expanded until we decided to end on £100,000 – which was then also surpassed.
We have already shared how touched our entire team was to see this level of money raised in just a week for such an important cause.
MAP has now extended a “massive thank you” to our readers. They called the support “phenomenal” and “awe-inspiring”.

They added that the money raised will enable the aid organisation to respond “rapidly to the critical health needs on the ground in Gaza".
MAP said: “A massive thank you to the readers of the National for their phenomenal support of our emergency response for Palestinians in Gaza.
"It’s been awe-inspiring to see the outpouring of support from readers – reaching an amazing final amount of £110k in just seven days!
“Your support will enable us to respond rapidly to the critical health needs on the ground in Gaza. Please also consider making a monthly donation to MAP if you would like to stay with us on this journey of support for the people of Gaza in their most desperate hour. Thank you!”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
