Two Scottish locations have been named among the best "secret" beaches in the whole of the UK.
Aberlady Bay in East Lothian and Sandwood Bay in Sutherland were listed among other spots like Porthdinllaen in Wales.
Discussing the list, the Independent said: "Summer is in sight, with light nights and sunny days tantalisingly close. It’s a good time of year to start making a list of beaches you want to visit, especially if you want to avoid fighting for space on the shores with hundreds of others.
"Even though the UK weather is notoriously unpredictable, Brits love nothing more than a beach day. Whether you live in the city or countryside, there’s blissful escapism to be found in feeling the sand between your toes and taking a dip in beautiful, bracing waters."
Why Aberlady Bay and Sandwood Bay were named among the best 'secret' beaches in the UK
Aberlady Bay was praised by the Independent for its birdwatching and two sunken submarines that can be seen at low tide.
Introducing the Scottish beach, it said: "This horseshoe-shaped beach is found within a nature reserve and located between Gullane and Aberlady in East Lothian, Scotland. There are miles of sandy beach to walk across, while the reserve is a perfect birdwatching spot. You can even view the wreckage of two submarines at low tide."

Sharing where visitors can stay for the night when visiting this under-the-radar location, it added: "Old Aberlady Inn is just 200 metres from the beach and offers both traditional accommodation and a sun terrace."
Rooms go for £121 per night and amenities like room and bar services are available to guests.
Discussing Sandwood Bay in Sutherland, the title said: "Head to Sutherland on the southwest coast of Scotland for this remote sandy beach. You can sink your feet into nearly two miles of golden sand, and lap up the view of the cliffs, dunes and a stunning sea stack. It’s a four-mile walk from the nearest car park at Blairmore, taking you through moorland with a marvellous loch view."
It added that Knockderry Country House Hotel was a great place to relax nearby with prices starting from £166 per night.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
