FOUR of the tournament favourites face off today as the pressure mounts up in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.

Tadhg Hickey’s Portugal will take on Zara Gladman’s France in what could be a cagey affair going by the these sides' last performance.

Rather surprisingly neither team were able to score in their round of 16 matches as France went through because of a Belgium own goal courtesy of Jan Vertonghen.

Portugal scraped through after beating Slovenia in a penalty shootout after the game ended in a thrilling 0-0.

Gladman will hope that France can finally find their shooting boots and book their place in the semifinals as she is playing for Medical Aid for Palestinians.

But will the football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo help secure a last-eight place for Hickey as he he hopes to raise money for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine.

The second of the two haymaker matches will see Mark Nelson’s (below) Germany facing off against Christopher Brookmyre’s Spain in what is sure to be an entertaining affair with both teams in excellent form.

The tournament hosts easily swept aside a solid Denmark side 2-0 in the round of 16 as Spain put an abrupt end to the fairy tale run of Georgia by dishing out a 4-1 drumming.

It would be safe to say the winner of this match will still have a tough run to the final but if they get there they would certainly fancy their chances of winning it all.

Brookmyre (below) will hope Spain can go the distance as he is playing for Médecins Sans Frontières.

While Nelson will be wishing that the Germans can make their dream of winning the Euros on home soil come true as he is playing for Marie Curie Cancer.

Regardless of either game's outcome, two of the tournament favourites are going to be heading home by the end of Friday evening as we get a step closer to crowning the Euro 2024 champion.
