SCOTLAND is set to be hit with heavy rain this week as a weather warning has been issued with flooding and power cuts expected.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the north east of Scotland as the unseasonably bad weather is predicted to last from 10pm Tuesday to midday Wednesday.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been warned there is a chance of power cuts and loss of other services.

There is also the chance of flooding in some regions which could lead to buildings being damaged, the Met Office has warned.

Roads throughout the north east of Scotland are also expected to close due to flooding while warnings for cancellations or delays to public transport have been issued.

There is also a small chance of fast flowing or deep flood water causing danger to life in the worst affected areas.

The weather warning spans from Montrose to Wick including Inverness, Aberdeen, Moray and the north east of the Highlands.

According to the weather forecast by the Met Office, 30mm of rain is expected to fall in the coming days in the north east Highlands, Moray and Aberdeenshire.

While the Grampians and the mountains in the far north are expected to see up to 90mm of rain fall through Wednesday and will be some of the worst affected areas.
