THE cheapest areas to rent in Scotland have been revealed.

The report by BLG Development Finance and Online Marketing Surgery ranks areas in Scotland based on their average rent price so far this year.

According to the most recent figures from the Scottish Government around 340,000 people rent a home from the privately rented sector.

Private rented properties equate to around a seventh of all homes in Scotland.

Using data from the Office for National Statistics, the Rent Report gives potential renters an idea of where the most affordable areas are to live in the country.

Dumfries and Galloway came out on top of the list for having the cheapest rent price so far this year, with an average of £476 per month.

Both North and South Ayrshire have been combined in the report and come out as the second cheapest areas to rent in with an average of £588.

Rounding out the top three is Perth and Kinross with an average rent price of £618.
