MAIRI McAllan has announced she has given birth to a baby boy.

Scotland’s Net Zero Secretary took to Twitter/X on Monday morning to announce the news she had given birth to Somhairle John McAllan-Renwick.

She said: “My husband and I are completely in love and deeply grateful for the outstanding care and expertise of NHS Scotland teams that Somhairle and I have received.

“Mum mode activated.”

A number of people took to social media to congratulate McAllan and her husband, with First Minister John Swinney writing: “Warmest congratulations to you all and welcome to Somhairle. Enjoy this special time.”

SNP MSP Clare Haughey also offered her “warmest best wishes and congratulations” while MSP Stuart McMillan also commented: “Wonderful news. I am delighted for you all. Enjoy every second.”

Conservative MSPs Murdo Fraser and Rachael Hamilton also offered their congratulations on social media.

The Scottish Government previously announced that Gillian Martin would serve as the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Energy for the duration of McAllan’s maternity leave.
