A SCOTTISH hotel originally built as the home of textile baron has gone up for sale.

The Scots baronial-style mansion Taypark House was built around 1863 for Alexander Low as a private residence set in the grounds of the Taypark House Estate in Dundee.

However, it has since been used for a variety of purposes such as a training centre, a care home and a medical research offices.

Most recently it has been used as a 10-bedroom four-star hotel, which also features two two-bedroom apartments and a four-bedroom luxury holiday let called the Stables.

Estate agents Christie & Co said the asking price for the property was around £3 million.

Gary Witham, Scottish hospitality team director at Christie & Co, said: "The current owners developed the estate as a hotel and weddings & events venue.

"The hotel was then leased to the current experienced operators whilst the owners redeveloped The Stables, to complete the high-quality estate. Now that development is complete, they feel it is time to move on and allow a new owner to asset manage the business to their chosen format.

"The current lease and business of the hotel will not be impacted by the sale."
