A PERSON has died after being hit by a train in the Highlands during the morning rush hour.

Emergency services attended an area of the train line close to Dingwall at around 8.20am on Monday after receiving a report of a casualty on the tracks.

Police officers and paramedics arrived but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “We were called to an area of the line close to Dingwall at around 8.20am this morning, Monday, August 19, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
