A SCOTTISH castle overlooking its own private islands bought only two years ago by a self-styled guru to turn it into a luxury retreat has gone up for sale for £1.5 million less than what he bought it for.

Mark Koppikar, also known as “Shanti”, wanted to turn Glenborrodale Castle, which dates back to 1902, into a haven but was evicted with his followers due to amassing an amount of debt, according to the Daily Mail.

Koppikar apparently bought the category A listed castle in Ardnamurchan for £3.75m in 2022 but it is now back up on the market for a knocked-down price of £2.35m.

It was also reported that the self-proclaimed “peace bringer” was evicted from the property and an “extended period of cleaning and remedial work” was required within the castle and the grounds to get it into a “condition to maximise the sale price”.

The castle boasts some stunning views as it overlooks Loch Sunart, letting people enjoy views of the islands of Risga, Carna and Oronsay.

Property agent Savills is handling the sale and said that the castle sits on 134 acres in a quiet location.

The agent said: “It goes without saying that Glenborrodale Castle is set in quite a magical location and with the additional benefits of the islands and outbuildings – the opportunities this property presents are endless.”

The castle includes sixteen bedrooms with additional staff accommodation and a boathouse and jetty.

Along with the sale of the property the two private islands, Risga at 30 acres and Eileam am Feidh at 13 acres, are also included.
