REPRESENTATIVES from 14 nations and regions across Europe and beyond are set to convene in Scotland next month for a first-of-its-kind conference.
Tickets have now officially gone on sale for the Owning Our Futures event, which will see representatives from the diverse nations sign a declaration stating that Europe's future must be one of greater autonomy and decentralisation.
Among the nations and regions set to attend are Catalonia, Corsica, Flanders, the Faroes, Greenland, Ireland, North England, Sardinia, Sicily, South Tyrol, the Basque Country, Veneto, and Wales.

The event has been organised jointly by the Scottish Independence Convention (SIC) and International Commission of European Citizens – an EU-affiliated organisation bringing together European nations with independence or autonomy movements – and is billed as the “most inspiring independence conference this year”.
It will be held in Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh on October 5 from 2pm.
The SIC said the venue had been chosen to “give our guests a historic setting and show the best of Scotland”.
Tickets cost £10 for the conference alone, or £25 including a ceilidh with a haggis supper and music from the Stan Reeves Ceilidh Band.

Commenting on tickets going on sale, SIC co-convener Isobel Lindsay said: “An awful lot of people are downbeat just now as we come to realise we've a bit more fighting to do before we achieve independence than perhaps we thought we'd face.
“Well you can both lift the gloom by coming to this inspiring conference and make invaluable alliances with our international friends so we can fight this fight together.
“We know there is a lot of interest in this conference and places are limited.
“It may not quite be the scramble there was for Oasis tickets, but if you don't want to be disappointed we would encourage you to buy tickets early.”

The SIC has said that there are 250 spaces available for the conference, but only 150 for the evening ceilidh.
The convention further asked people who are able to donate to contribute towards a crowdfunder to help pay for delegates’ accommodation and travel.
“All donations to our fundraiser will help us make it a conference which stays in the minds of our international partners for a long time to come,” the SIC said.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
