Ultravox singer Midge Ure has paid tribute to Simple Minds drummer Kenny Hyslop following his death at the age of 73.

Describing him as an "old friend," the music icon said on Twitter/X: “Just about to board the British Airways flight from JFK and heard my old friend/Slik/Simple Minds drummer Kenny Hyslop has passed away. He lived a lively life!"

Sharing his thoughts with the drummer's family, he added: “Huge condolences to his friends and family. He was much loved.”

Kenny Hyslop was born in Helensburgh in 1951 and spent much of his life producing music in the United States and Canada.

Beyond his work for the famous Scottish band he was also a member of other groups like The O’clock Gang, Set the Tone and Big George.

In his later years, he taught drumming at Carlton Studios in Glasgow.

Fans were quick to share messages with one user writing: "Nooooooooo!!!! Not another death, I can’t handle it this week! This is really sad, I was just talking about him with @brucerisk  a couple of weeks back superb drummer."

Another said: "Oh no. That’s very sad news indeed. Condolences."
