DETECTIVEs are investigating the attempted murder of a man at a Scottish pub.

The incident happened at about 6.30pm on Tuesday at the James Watt in Cathcart Street in Greenock.

Police said the 60-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medical staff describe his condition as serious.

Officers are treating the incident in Inverclyde as attempted murder and urged anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Inspector Nicky Beattie said: “The family of the man are being supported by police and being kept up to date with the ongoing investigation.

“I am appealing to anyone that can help with our investigation to come forward.

“We believe there were a number of people within the premises at the time and I would appeal to anyone who was there on Tuesday night to speak to us if you have not already done so.”
