THE comedian and actress Ashley Storrie has issued a statement following her mother Janey Godley’s announcement that she was entering end-of-life care.

On Wednesday, Godley posted a video on social media explaining that she was now in palliative care due to the spread of her terminal ovarian cancer.

While Godley’s post was flooded with messages of love and support from figures such as Nicola Sturgeon and Nigella Lawson, it has also attracted the ire of online trolls who disagree with Godley’s staunch support of transgender rights.

In her own video message, Storrie asked people to show compassion and understand that everyone processes grief differently.

“Hello friends,” began Storrie.

“As you might have seen, mum has entered her end of life care.

“The cancer has spread and she is no longer responding to chemotherapy.

“It’s really sad. I’m going to keep living my life and I’m going to keep working because that’s what my mum’s asked me to do.

“And that’s what I’m gonna do because I want to show her before she leaves that I’m gonna be okay because I know that’s the thing she’s worried about the most.”

She continued: “I won’t be sitting a vigil by her bedside crying because she doesn’t want me to.

“And I’m going to respect her wishes. I love my mum and every weird and uncomfortable and unusual facet of her.

“And I’m gonna respect her wishes in this time.

“I only have one favour to ask yous and that’s to have a bit of compassion and recognise that not everybody processes things the same as you do.

“I’ve got an autistic brain. But I’m very grateful for all your love and support so thank you.”

Godley first rose to national prominence after staging a protest outside the Trump Turnberry golf course in 2018.

An image of her holding a sign which read “Trump is a c***” went viral, with many sharing the image once again at news of Godley’s entrance into palliative care.

Storrie has followed her mother’s footsteps into comedy, recently writing and starring in the BBC series Dinosaur.
