THE Conservative Party leadership candidate Kemi Badenoch has praised Israel's weaponisation of pagers, which killed 37 people, including children, in Lebanon.

Earlier this month Israel carried out an attack in Lebanon by concealing explosives inside the batteries of pagers.

It appears the attack was designed to target members of Hezbollah.

Yet children were killed and civilian bystanders injured when the devices were detonated.

While Israel is yet to comment on the attack, it's understood it was part of a joint operation between Israel's intelligence service Mossad and the Israeli military.

Despite UN human rights experts condemning the attack as a "terrifying" violation of international law, Badenoch praised Israel's methods as "amazing" during a Q&A at the Conservative Party conference.

"Islamist terrorism is something that should never be appeased," she said.

"Israel is at the frontline, and it is surrounded by a lot of enemies.

"I think what they are doing is extraordinary.

People said getting the leader of Hezbollah couldn't be done, people ask Israel to do things like be more targeted so they don't harm civilians.

"They did that amazing thing with the pagers and when they did that they were criticised for it.

"They are always criticised, and I am very sympathetic to the Israeli argument."

She later added that "we must not forget the Palestinian people who are not Hamas".

"They are unfortunately caught in the middle of this terrible war," she said.

"I think we should do all we can to help them."

It comes after the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike over the weekend.

According to Lebanon's health ministry,  more than 1000 people have been killed by Israeli attacks in the country over the past two weeks.
