A TRANSPORT authority has provided an update on the timeline for the delivery of the Clyde Metro project.

Last year, it was announced that Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) would be undertaking work to look at potential routes and new forms of transport to improve, expand link-up existing infrastructure in the Greater Glasgow area.

The work includes looking at the construction of a rail link from Glasgow Airport to Paisley Gilmour Street Station, providing travellers with the option of getting to the airport via train.

Other potential projects include a new tram or light trail route connecting the city centre with the SEC, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Braehead.

SPT is leading on the development of a Case for Investment (CFI) for the project and has provided an update on the expected timeline for its completion.

An update on the SPT website states that the CFI is expected to be completed by mid-2027.

“Simply put, Clyde Metro is a huge project,” it states.

“Consequently, several workstreams need to be developed and approved to demonstrate the need and value of delivering a project of this scale.

“The three project partners have begun work on the Clyde Metro CFI and will take this forward in two key stages to be completed over the next 3 years. It is anticipated to be completed by Mid-2027.

“Tasks would include detailed appraisal, engineering design, making the financial case for funding and ultimately the delivery of future lines or routes.”

It is only after the completion of the CFI in 2027 that funding arrangements can be made, with construction not likely to begin before 2028.

The SPT also stated that residents will be able to have their say about the project throughout the CFI process and beyond.

The update said: “A programme of engagement & consultation activity will be undertaken throughout the development of Clyde Metro CFI and will provide the opportunity for members of the public, as well as key stakeholders, to input and provide views at appropriate stages throughout the process as proposals are developed into more detailed designs.”
