STORM Ashley has caused two popular attractions to close “in the interest of public safety”.

Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh and The Enchanted Forest in Pitlochry have both announced that they will be closed for the day due to adverse weather.

City of Edinburgh Council informed locals that Princes Street Gardens will be closed today (October 20) due to "strong winds and heavy rain”.

This comes as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning while Storm Ashley makes its way across Scotland.

A press release from The Enchanted Forest says that it will be closed in the "interest of public safety" and that organisers are sorry for inconvenience caused.

A spokesperson says that all customers with tickets for The Enchanted Forest can exchange their tickets to a later date or a full refund.

The warning is in place until midnight due to likely “injuries and danger to life” from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties, according to the Met Office.

It’s predicted that gale force winds will reach up to 80mph in the west of Scotland, with the Met Office saying Edinburgh will see gusts of up to 66mph by 7pm.
