A NEW study has ranked a Scottish beach near Edinburgh as the second-best in the UK.
Conducted by mother and baby retailer JoJo Maman Bébé, a new study labelled Portobello Beach near Edinburgh as the best in Scotland.
Beaches were ranked using Google Maps, with researchers looking at the overall visitor rating, how many reviews it received and the city or town it’s located near.

A weighted rank was then calculated to give the beach an overall score out of 100 with Portobello being given a rating of 94.4.
The beach was the only one in Scotland to feature in the top 10 with the full list as follows:
- Whitby – Whitby Beach
- Edinburgh – Portobello Beach
- Scarborough – Scarborough Beach
- Brighton & Hove – Brighton Beach
- Liverpool – Formby Beach
- Bournemouth - Bournemouth Beach
- Sunderland – Roker Beach
- Cornwall – Porthgwidden Beach
- Newquay – Great Western Beach
- Swansea – Swansea Beach
The same study also ranked Edinburgh as the best family-friendly city in the UK, suggesting it was ideal for a weekend trip.
