A MAN has been arrested following the death of a 36-year-old man and the alleged attempted murder of a 59-year-old man.

It was previously reported that emergency services raced to Burnbank Centre in Hamilton at around 3.50pm yesterday following reports of two men injured within the premises. 

Upon arrival, police said the 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to hospital.

(Image: Images by GT staff) Now, the force has confirmed that a murder enquiry has been launched following the alleged incident and a 56-year-old man has been arrested. 

Officers remain in the area and some closures are in place on Whitehill Road and Purdie Street. The closures are are likely to last until after midday today with limited access to shops.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

Superintendent Richard Taylor, Motherwell Police Station, said: “We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.

"We have an increased police presence in the area as we understand this could be a very upsetting and worrying time for the local community.

"Anyone with concerns is asked to speak to these officers.”
