THE National is still running our brilliant £10 for one year offer to celebrate the newspaper’s 10th anniversary.
As well as access to all of our great content covering national issues, you will also be able to read all our fantastic international content.
We truly believe The National covers foreign affairs more extensively than any other newspaper in Scotland.

In a world of clickbait, valuable journalism from the likes of our foreign affairs editor David Pratt (above) is more important than ever – reporting from Ukraine itself and analysis on Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.
The team has been keeping our readers up-to-date on Israel’s brutal assault and how it is impacting Palestinians, from our regular Diaries from Gaza series to coverage of Palestinians in the UK fighting for a visa scheme to reunite with their families.
We also regularly cover major indy movements from across the world. Take Catalonia, for example. This year, we covered how former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont evaded capture by Spanish authorities and heard from the likes of Catalan economist and politician Clara Ponsati in an exclusive opinion piece and interview.
We want to keep providing that. Click HERE to help support the great work of our team.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
