IMAGES have been shared of tarantulas which were found at the side of a road in Glasgow.

Photos shared on the Facebook page Pollokshields Together showed crates which had been “dumped at the side of the road”.

The post said the crates still had at “least two (tarantulas) inside” and that the SSPCA had been contacted.

The post on Facebook said: “Just found these dumped at the side of the road. At least two of them still had tarantulas inside, one of which may still be alive.

“RSPCA has been called but this is totally irresponsible – feeling angry.”

The post was later edited to explain the spiders were picked up by someone, although not the SSPCA.

One Facebook user said their "heart was breaking" at seeing the crates at the side of the road.

The National has since confirmed that Dragon Aquatics, a store based in Paisley, was able to collect the spiders and has since found them new homes.

The SSPCA has been approached for further comment.
