VOTES are being counted across America as the crucial US election nears its end.

Some states have already been projected as wins for either Democrat Kamala Harris or Republican Donald Trump, with eyes on key swing states which will decide who is the next president.

But when is the 2024 presidential election result expected?

In past presidential races, the winner has been named late on election night or early the next morning but – with this race neck and neck – it is likely the result won’t be announced until later on Wednesday.

There is also a chance that, due to recounts in key swing states if the margin is particularly thin, it could take even longer.
