THE Maybole Community Campus in Ayrshire was evacuated on Friday morning following reports of a smell of gas.

The campus, which opened last year, incorporates Carrick Academy, St Cuthbert's Primary School, and Culzean Primary School and Early Years Centre.

The area was checked by SGN and the campus was declared safe with no gas detected, with pupils later re-entering the buildings.

A council spokesperson said: "The safety of pupils and staff is always a priority.

"Following reports that there was a smell of gas in the science block, the campus was evacuated as a precaution.

"SGN carried out checks and declared the campus safe with no gas detected. Pupils and staff have re-entered the campus. Further tests will be carried out over the weekend."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was alerted at 9.30am, but its attendance was not required.
